Concrete Walls

I am blogging from the little internet cafe down the street from the salon since at home I have NO free time anymore. And if I do I don't want to be on the computer. That is crazy to me. I knew I had an afternoon appt. that didn't fill and so here I am. Rob actually just tracked me down here and gave me the list of work to be done this evening since he is working 12 hr graveyard shifts as of tonight. That will help give him time to work during the day on the house so he is not complaining. Hell it is work and that is all that matters.
So we have footings and walls. Did I tell you how much I do not like concrete. It is such a huge pain. You spend DAYS putting it all up, 2 hrs of actual concrete pouring and then DAYS tearing it all apart. Tedious time consuming work. Lets face it, I am into instant gratification and I admit it. I know what a john a clamp, j bolt, snap ties and other miscellaneous tools that I will never have a use for again. Do you know what I did get though, a tool belt and bag. Hey I now know why they use them, if only for a place to set your hammer for petes sake. It is awfully convenient to have it hanging at your side instead of constantly wondering where you set it down. I will show you a picture of my bags below that Miss Kathy gave me. I feel legit now.
Miss Kathy also loaned us lights. Since the days are getting shorter we needed extra light to work and the car batteries could only take so much. Rob kept us out until 11:30 that first night! That was a little excessive so I have to put a kibosh on that and we cut out at 8 on a school night and until we are tired on the weekends. We are still having a lot of fun and we actually got Jordan out there working with us now. Holy moly any one that knows her knows of her stealth ability to disappear when there is work to be done. Love her but it is a fact, and my son has been a little slacker as well. I do believe it is a teenager "thing" and will pass but I think there will be a lot of yelling in the process.
I have never seen Rob so scared as he was when we poured the walls and the next 24hrs while it cured. All he talked about was honeycombs, not the cereal, and rebar out and just about anything that could go wrong. Thank God it turned out ok, and he NEVER wants to do another one again.  All I have to say is ditto.
We have the floor to poor next, after the plumbing inspector signs off and then it is all framing baby. Now that is the part I am waiting for, to actually see the house go up and it will go fast I am told. Framing will start by the 25th at the latest. Bring it on!
